BALLYNAGOWAN (SMITHSTOWN) CASTLE - IRELAND

BALLYNAGOWAN (SMITHSTOWN) CASTLE - IRELAND

Only a few castles in the West of Ireland have survived into our times. In the County of North Clare, one of the most important castles is 15th century Ballynagowan Castle. During 1652, almost all inhabitable castles in Clare, including Smithstown, were occupied by Cromwellian garrisons - a time of terrible uncertainty, under military rule. The castle was last inhabited in the mid-19th century but has undergone recent restoration.

On arrival at the castle NGRIT-UK noted that there was a definite atmosphere inside the main living room. When we all retired to bed later that evening, our spirit medium, David, had retired to the gallery room, where he would be sleeping, when he heard someone shout and swear at him. At that time the rest of the team were in their own rooms. Also, During our stay at the castle the whole team heard footsteps running up and down the spiral stone stairs when no one was there.
